Better is One Day: Many Ways to Mix a Song

Better is One Day: Many Ways to Mix a Song: "

Imagine yourself reviewing the song list for the upcoming service. The song "Better is One Day" is listed with a note from the worship leader..."trying new version." What does this mean to you? First off, it means you aren't cruising through the song on auto-pilot. Second, it means you need to think outside of the booth.

A simple search on youtube yielded the follow videos. Pay attention to what instruments carry the song; drums, electric guitar, keyboards. Listen to the different singing styles. Compare Kutless to the version performed at the Indiana Bible College. Of course each version is a different arrangement but it also means you have to mix the songs appropriately.

One version calls for massive reverb, one does not. One calls for simplicity and one calls for a moderately heavy bass line.

I'm posting up these videos because by hearing different versions of the same song, you can be inspired to bring a new sound to any song. You and I are the most creative when we have sources for inspiration.

Worship tracks from April 10, 2011

I am temporarily, and perhaps permanently, posting recordings I happen to make at New City to Box.net. We'll try this and see how it goes. My archive at esnips is now almost 4 years old, has become repetitive, and has failed to keep up with other file-sharing websites.

For now, only certain people have the ability to download, but I hope you enjoy listening. Box.net has a mobile app for iPhone and iTouch that will allow you to listen right from the server. Let me know what you think.
